RETURNING defender Mark Cooper expressed his delight to finally get over the hamstring problem that had plagued him since the turn of the year.
The former Frome Town full-back got through 90 minutes for the first time following the injury, in Weymouth’s 3-3 draw with Dunstable Town on Tuesday night.
And Cooper, who is set to be in the squad that make the trip to Banbury United on Saturday (3pm), is hoping that now he is fit, he can help the side kick on for the rest of the campaign.
“It was nice to get 90 minutes on Tuesday, I needed it really as I hadn’t played fully in six-and-a-half weeks,” he told Echosport.
“In my first session back it was still in my head a bit, I was a bit wary of pushing off but I just had to get over that.
“I had never pulled a muscle before in my life and hopefully it’s the last one.
“Hopefully, with 90 minutes in the tank, I can help us kick on now and pick up as many points as we can before the end of the season.”
He added: “The season may be slipping away from us now but it’s up to us to end on a good run, if we can go unbeaten, the confidence will be high for next year.”
Asked if Weymouth was the club he wanted to be at next term, Cooper replied: “Yeah, definitely.
“It’s the biggest club in the league really and hopefully next year, fingers crossed, we can finally get out of this league because the club shouldn’t be in there.”
