Terras flying with Robins
By Adam Summers
Saturday 26th May 2012
THE Terras are in the process of establishing a link-up with
Bristol City that could see aspiring young Robins turn out
in claret and blue next season.
Boss Brendon King has been holding talks with the Championship
outfit and in particular academy recruitment officer Trevor
Challis, who used to play for Weymouth and is keen for some
of his top prospects to gain experience at the Bob Lucas Stadium.
King told Echosport: I have spoken to Trevor and he
said there may be a couple of players we could loan from them.
I will know more in the next couple of weeks but he
did tell me there is one or two in particular he has in mind
who could really benefit from some time here and who would
be great assets to our squad.
We will see how it works out but it sounds like there
is definitely some scope there for a good link-up between
the two clubs which would be absolutely fantastic.
They actually cancelled another friendly in order to
come down and play us in pre-season on July 28, which is very
much appreciated, and with Trevor having spent time here in
the past it all looks very positive indeed.
Like us, they certainly seem pretty keen to build on
the relationship so hopefully a lot of good things will come
out of it for all parties.
King is also continuing negotiations with several players
and is hopeful of having some more good news soon.
He added: Talks are progressing with three targets
and I am also in discussions with Stephen Reed, all of which
looks positive.
Warren Byerley and Scott Dixon have also agreed deals
and Jamie Beasley has agreed to return for pre-season.
Its a busy time and there is a lot going on but
the signs are encouraging and I am sure we will have some
more updates soon.
Weymouth have added a trip to Tiverton Town (August 11) to
their pre-season programme, which also includes friendlies
at Portland United (July 21) and Wimborne Town (July 31).
