Sunday service for Terras
By Adam Summers

Saturdsay 21st January 2012

BRENDON King is planning to deploy a rapid response unit at Evesham United tomorrow (3pm) in a bid to galvanise his wounded troops.

Successive defeats against Arlesey Town and Alfreton Town have left the Terras shell-shocked in recent weeks but a couple of members of the back-up brigade are now on standby to lift morale.

Lewis Tasker and Richard Marshallsay are both set to start at St George’s Lane as King looks to add some much-needed steel to his claret and blue army – a quality that has been severely lacking in recent performances.

The Weymouth boss said: “The fact we are playing on a Sunday is far from ideal.

“Evesham set their stall out at the start of the season by ground sharing with Worcester City but the way they have been allowed to change home games to Sundays when Worcester are at home on the Saturday surprises me, particularly at this standard of football.

“It certainly messes up our weekend. It is a long way for the supporters and players to travel, particularly with work the next day, and the fact they would not change it to a 1pm kick-off just makes it even more frustrating.

“However, it is what it is and we just have to get on with it.”

King went on to add: “Worcester’s ground is a proper old one with a big pitch which promises to be quite heavy, especially with another game having been played on it the day before, so it is important we are ready for a battle.

“Our form on the road has not been good enough of late so I will be demanding that the lads roll their sleeves up and scrap for every ball.

“Sometimes we go away thinking we can still get the ball down and play but the conditions and the opposition don’t always allow you to do that.

“That is when you have to go toe-to-toe and win ugly, and that is something we need to add to our game.

“You have to be horrible sometimes and get in people’s faces but at the same time it has to be controlled as well.

“The last couple of weeks we have not shown that sort of mettle and been punished so tomorrow I will be looking for a big response.”

Commenting on potential changes to the side, King said: “Richard Marshallsay has been recovering from an Achilles injury in recent weeks but is now back fully fit and there is a good possibility he will start.

“You have got to have dogs of war in your side and he certainly fits the bill.

“There is also a good chance Lewis Tasker could come in too.

“We need to become a lot more solid and harder to break down, and I fully expect the players to deliver.”

The Terras, who have taken just one point from their last three on their travels in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier, will be without Alex Jeannin and Jamie Beasley for the encounter.

Jeannin has a calf injury while Beasley has gone on loan to Poole Town for the rest of the season.

Evesham held Weymouth to a 2-2 draw at the Bob Lucas Stadium earlier in the campaign but currently sit fifth-bottom, three points and four places adrift of King’s men, having played two games more.
