Hutch’s men go in search of elusive win

IAN Hutchinson has challenged his players to wipe Tuesday night’s disappointment out of their minds by claiming an elusive first win of the season at Evesham tomorrow (3pm).

Following three successive draws, the Terras looked well on course to break their duck at Salisbury City three days ago but a trio of late strikes wiped out their two-goal lead and left them bewildered as their quest to get into positive figures following a 10-point deduction continues.

Weymouth now sit eight points adrift at the foot of the table on minus seven points but Hutchinson is adamant that a morale-boosting victory is just around the corner.

He said: “We need to take the positives out of the Salisbury game and there were plenty of them.

“It did not register at the time but their manager Darrell Clarke said to me afterwards we are the best team they have played so far, which is a big compliment even if we are only four games into the season.

“They are top of the league and one of the favourites to go up so comments like that give us hope.

“The signs are encouraging and now it is just a case of getting that elusive first win, which I have no doubt will come sooner rather than later if we continue to work hard and play the same way as we did the other night.”

Even so, such a defeat will no doubt have left scars on Wey-mouth’s young side but Hutchinson is confident they will respond in the right way.

He added: “Their pride has been dented and they have needed an arm around them. They are a young bunch but like I said after the game, the experience will make them stronger, and now we must go again on Saturday.

“We have a fully fit squad to choose from and the challenge is to put Tuesday behind us now and go to Evesham and come away with a positive result.”

Hutchinson has also indicated that he may have a couple of new faces in the squad for the trip to Worcestershire but until the deals have been final-ised he is remaining tight-lipped.

Midfielder Rob Nicholls, who featured for the club last season, could be one of the new additions after returning from a stint in America earlier this week.
