Duo sign up for Terras

Friday 23rd July 2010

WEYMOUTH manager Ian Hutchinson last night completed his first new signings of pre-season in the form of Matt Oldring and Tom Manley.

Ex-AFC Bournemouth defender Oldring and former Bridgwater Town gloveman Manley have signed one-year deals at the Wessex Stadium after impressing while on trial.

And Hutchinson, whose side visit Portland United tomorrow (3pm), is delighted to secure their services.

He said: “They’ve both been working hard and have both been very impressive.

“Tom has played at a decent level and done well in the friendly games so far while Matt has been in and around a professional club, he’s got a willingness to learn and his attitude has been superb.

“I spoke with the chairman George Rolls and we felt it would be beneficial for the club to get these two lads on a contract.

“Hopefully this is now the catalyst for others to sign, whether they be on contracts or non-contract terms.”

The Terras could include up to seven former Portland players in their squad for tomorrow’s short trip to Grove Corner – Lewis Whyton, Alex Halloran, Sam Clarke, John Litherland, Richard Marshallsay, Scott Dixon and Sam Charles.

Hutchinson will also welcome back trialist striker Jules Emati-Emati and take another look at fellow hopeful Cheol Min-Kim.

The Weymouth boss added: “Tomorrow will be another chance to take a look at quite a few of the lads and assess how they are developing.

“It is coming to the business end of pre-season now and we must start looking to push on and get a set squad together ahead of the start of the season.

“I will certainly be looking for improvements in certain areas following Tuesday’s 0-0 draw at Bridport and it will be up to the lads to show their worth.”

The Dorset Premier League Blues will be without Jimmy Dailey, Matt White and new signing Tom Coggins tomorrow. Dailey and White are both sidelined through knee injuries while ex-Bridport man Coggins is unavailable.

Blues (from): Carroll, Gifford, Wells, Biles, Austin, Carter, Charles, Cranny, Miles, McKay, Godfrey, Churchill, Sibley, Conning, Linaker, Etherington, Beads, Turrell, Smith, Evans, Boatswain.

Terras (from): Manley, Weeks, Tribe, Ironside, Radcliffe, McKech-nie, Oldring, Welch, Clarke, MacGookin, Halloran, Min-Kim, Marshallsay, Reiffer, Charles, Evans, Kemble, Whyton, Dixon, Litherland.

* Bridport, who are unbeaten in two pre-season friendlies thus far, travel to Wessex League Division One side Shaftesbury tomorrow (3pm).
