Chairman's backing keeps Mawer
at the Wessex

WEYMOUTH defender Cameron Mawer has revealed to Echosport
that Terras chairman George Rolls was the reason behind
his decision to stay at the Blue Square Souths bottom
club.
The 24-year-old returned to the Wessex Stadium from Blue
Square Premier outfit Grays Athletic in February and has made
seven appearances during his second stint at the Terras.
He agreed to a 50 per cent pay cut last week, despite having
to travel from London for each fixture, but missed Weymouths
first match since the mass exodus of players to serve the
first half of a two-game suspension.
Its a long journey but Ive come back here
and Im enjoying my football, although Im not enjoying
losing, said Mawer. Im disappointed manager
Jerry Gill left but what the chairman has done for the club
is great.
Without him there wouldnt be a club at all, plus
he brought me back to the club and has been good to me. I
also get on with the fans, they have given me a great reception.
Should the club survive a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA)
on March 26 at Chingford Civic Hall, Mawer intends to see
the season out with the Terras, but is keeping his options
open ahead of next season.
Im not sure if Ill stay so I will have
to see what happens, he said. I want to play as
high as I can but I will speak with the chairman again before
next season.
The ex-Grays man was initially brought in to try and help
Weymouth avoid the drop from Blue Square South but, with the
team doomed to certain relegation, he has recognised the role
he must play in helping develop the youngsters who have broken
into the first team.
Im probably one of the senior players so hopefully
I can help us and help give a few players that experience,
which will be good for them, said Mawer. We just
need to pick up a few results and get the confidence going
again.
They did well against Welling on Saturday and managed
to hold out until half-time at 0-0.
Mawer will also miss this Saturdays trip to Chelmsford
City, but will return for the reverse fixture with Welling
United on March 23.
* Meanwhile, the Terras Trust and Weymouth FC Supporters
Club (WSC) have reiterated their support for chairman George
Rolls and his proposed Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA).
The clubs creditors will meet on March 26 to decide
whether or not to accept nine per cent of what they are owed
over a period of five years.
Three-quarters of them must agree, otherwise Rolls has warned
that Weymouth could face liquidation.
A statement from the Trust and WSC, said: We believe
that the vast majority of fans want to see Weymouth FC continue
in its current form and playing its football at the Wessex
Stadium.
With that firmly in mind we are supporting the club
as it seeks creditors approval of its proposed CVA.
We are very much aware that the process carries a high
element of risk, but if successful it will see Weymouth FC
on a far more stable financial footing than we have seen for
a long time.
Supporters who purchased Terras Saviours 100 packages have
also been urged to contact the Trust or WSC via email on enquiries@terrastrust.co.uk
or alternatively adewfc@live.co.uk
The scheme has been recognised as a liability in the CVA
document so are entitled to vote towards the conclusion of
the CVA.
A fans forum could also be set up to put questions
to Rolls in the near future, while the two supporters
organisations will vote on their proposed merger this week
at an extraordinary general meeting in the Wessex Stadiums
Weyline Lounge on Thursday.
