Presentation night
Wednesday 3rd June 2009
As a culmination of their successful season Weymouth FC Ladies
recently held their end of season presentation night at the
Wessex Stadium when new Terras first team signing Andy Harris
was on hand to present the awards.
Weymouth FC Youth girls under 14s, Weymouth FC Youth
girls under 16s and Weymouth FC Terras girls under 16s
teams also presented their awards on the night as the club
sought to make the event a celebration of ladies and girls
football.
Weymouth FC Ladies players voted for two of the main awards
and most improved player went to Georgia Rogers who was playing
her first season at South West Womens League level after
having made the step up from Weymouth FC Youth.
The next award the players voted for was Players Player and
this went to Lisa Youd who made this her comeback season after
a couple of years away from the sport.
The final award the Managers Player went to Jess Turk another
who was in her debut season with the club.
Commenting on the awards Weymouth FC Ladies manager Tim Davis
said, I am delighted for the three girls that won the
awards as its recognition for all the hard work they have
put in during the season but in reality all 15 girls in the
squad deserve a team award for the way they applied themselves
last season.
Georgia had a fantastic year and it is testament to her versatility
that she played in goal, sweeper, centre back, central midfield,
right wing and striker at different times during the season
all without fuss and impressed in all positions. She is a
tremendous prospect and has matured greatly as a player.
Winning the players player award shows how highly the rest
of the girls value Lisas contributions and she is the
experienced head who both the girls and I respect greatly.
I gave my managers player award to Jess Turk who I have openly
stated is one of the best signings I have ever made. From
the first time I saw her playing for Dorchester I knew I wanted
to sign her and I was delighted when she agreed to join at
the start of the season. Her main attributes are her tremendous
pace and reading of the game. She is also a very fierce competitor
who hates to lose. Even though her best position is as a sweeper
she has chipped in with a lot of goals when I have pushed
her up front in games.
I would also like to take this opportunity of thanking among
others my captain Kim Cheffey and top scorer Rosie Sharpe
who both had fantastic seasons and are two players that the
girls coming up through the youth section need to watch closely
in the way they apply themselves during matches and their
work rate and skill levels are phenomenal.
Regards
Tim Davis
