Exit for Marcus?

MARCUS Browning could be set to leave Weymouth as the two parties look to thrash out a settlement deal for the remainder of his contract.

The 38-year-old, who finished last season as player-coach at the Terras, has been left out in the cold since the end of the last season despite wanting to be part of the rebuilding process at the Wessex Stadium following relegation from the Blue Square Premier.

Browning, who has a year left to run on his current deal, said: “They have told me that they are going to come up with a settlement for me.

“To be honest I cannot believe it because I have never wanted to leave but the new manager has come in and it seems he wants to bring in his own people, which is fair enough.”

Club director Paul Cocks confirmed that discussions regarding a settlement had taken place but insists that no agreement has been reached.

He said: “He’s not been offered a settlement yet but we’ve had discussions about the possibility of a settlement. The discussions though haven’t reached a conclusion yet.”

Browning looked an ideal candidate to become manager Matty Hale’s assistant following Andy Tillson’s departure to Exeter City last week but as soon as he was overlooked in favour of Ian Hutchinson he knew the writing was on the wall.

The ex-Wales international is now on the lookout for a new club. He added: “I still want to play. I think I can still do a job at Conference or Conference South level so I will put the feelers out and see who wants to take me.

“I also want to try and do a bit of coaching as well. I am doing a bit at the moment with Portsmouth Academy but it would be nice to get something a bit more permanent.”
