Brice is right

WEYMOUTH manager Matty Hale believes that new signing Scott Brice will be a big hit with the fans.

The central defender looked set to join Tiverton Town earlier this month, but contrary to reports, he did not sign a deal with the Yellows and has now opted for the Blue Square South Terras instead.

Brice leaves BGB Division One South & West outfit Yate Town to become Hale’s eighth close season signing, and has put pen to paper on a one-year deal.

The 22-year-old suffered relegation from the BGB Premier Division last season but Hale is confident that the former Yate skipper possesses all the right attributes to aid the Terras’ cause.

Of the man voted Players’ Player of the Season and Supporters’ Player of Season at Yate, Hale said: “Scott’s a big, strong, and tall lad who’s good in air. He’s a soldier, he’ll put his head where it hurts and he’ll fight for the cause, which is the type of player we want.

“I think the fans will like him as well as he’s a bit of a warrior. He’s still only 22 so he’s at a good age and there’s lots of time for him to get even better.

“I believe that he and Kyle Critchell will compliment each other well in defence.”

Hale added: “We’ve made eight signings now and we’ve still got one or two in pipeline, plus we’ll have a look at a few more when pre-season starts.”

The Terras report back for duty on Tuesday and Hale, appointed to the hot seat five weeks ago, cannot wait to get started.

He said: “It’s going to be a fresh start as there will be a lot of lads coming together for the first time. We’ve got a lot of work to do to get the spirit in the side and to get the group working together.”

Weymouth’s pre-season programme kicks off on Saturday, July 11 with a trip to assistant-boss Ian Hutchinson’s former side Bridport.
