FORMER Team Bath midfielder Dean Smith has become Weymouth boss Matty Hale’s third new signing.

The 26-year-old made over 100 appearances for the Students and is the first player from Team Bath to follow assistant-boss Andy Tillson, who remains head coach at the university outfit, to the Wessex Stadim.

Of his latest addition, who joins on a one-year deal, Hale said: “Dean was at Team Bath last year and he’s one of the more experienced members of that squad.

“He’s a former West Ham trainee and has played for Thurrock and Stevenage as well, so he’s played at this level before and knows what it’s about.

“He works hard, he’s a good passer of the ball and I’m sure he’ll be a good addition.”

Smith’s arrival follows the captures of ex-Weston-super-Mare winger Dean Grubb and former Eastleigh man Andy Harris.

More signings remain in the pipeline and Hale is keen to secure them as soon as possible.

He added: “We do need to get more players signed but we need to make sure that the players we get are good enough.

“I’m hoping to get the main bulk of the squad in place prior to pre-season.”
