Six in talks
By Adam Summers
Saturday 23rd May 2009
WEYMOUTH boss Matty Hale will continue to hold advanced negotiations
with six potential new signings this weekend, including two
former Terras.
The 30-year-old captured the services of ex-Weston-super-Mare
winger Dean Grubb on Thursday and he is hopeful of completing
several other deals by the early part of next week.
Understandably, Hale is keeping his cards close to his chest
in terms of the identity of his targets but he did offer a
few clues.
He said: Six offers have gone in for six different
players and two of them are former Weymouth players, three
of them are ex-Team Bath players, and the other is a left-sided
player.
I am hoping over the weekend and into the early part
of next week I will have something more to announce but there
is a lot happening in terms of speaking to people and we will
just have to see what materialises.
But the ball is very much in the court of the six players
now and I am keeping my fingers crossed for some good news.
When asked for more on the two ex-Terras, Hale added: Both
players have played for the club at some point during the
last couple of years and if they come they will offer a bit
of leadership which will complement the younger players coming
in.
Meanwhile, it appears the future of player-coach Marcus Browning
is no closer to being resolved.
Hale said: I will be speaking to the chairman over
the weekend in regards to Marcus. Both of us have been busy
but we are aware Marcus is going away on Monday and we ideally
want to get something sorted, one way or the other, over the
next couple of days.
Meanwhile, the Terras have announced their first pre-season
friendly.
Gary Johnson will be bringing his Champion-ship side Bristol
City to the Wessex Stadium on Tuesday, July 21 (7pm).
Hale added: My thanks go to Bobby Gould for passing
this opportunity on to us.
