Vickers considers quitting
By Adam Summers

Thursday 11th January 2007

TERRAS defender Ashley Vickers, 34, is considering quitting the game and returning to teaching.

The ex-Dagenham & Redbridge defender has been transfer-listed along with the rest of the Terras' squad and so far he has only been offered deals from clubs in London. Vickers said: "We are all shocked and are in limbo at the moment. The club has been telling us what clubs are coming in for us but no one really knows where they stand.

"The club has also said it will honour our contracts but it has also said that it will be turning part-time. It is difficult to see how they can honour that in that format.

"To be honest I am absolutely gutted because I really do not want to leave. All the clubs that have enquired about me have so far all been based in London and I do not want to go back there.

"I do not think there is any other position that has as many highs and lows as a lower league footballer. It maybe all right for Premiership players with their huge bank accounts but we all have to budget ourselves
personally and have bills to pay just like anyone else.

"I took a big pay cut to come down to Weymouth and I have really enjoyed my time here but I might well have to pack up again.

"I love playing football but I have also got to think about things from an economical point of view. I left a good teaching job to play again but who says I am going to get another one. They are not easy to find."
