Purser exit
By Adam Summers
Thursday 4th January 2007
FORMER Peterborough United striker Wayne Purser has left
Weymouth by mutual consent.
The 26-year-old, who missed most of last season due to an
eye injury, is now being linked with a move to Gravesend &
Northfeet.
The Kent outfit currently sit three places above the Terras
in third place in Nationwide Conference National.
Weymouth boss Garry Hill said: "It is true that Wayne
Purser has left the club by mutual consent. I do not know
anything about Gravesend, all I know is that we want to have
a little shake up in a few areas.
"I had a chat with Wayne and talked about the direction
we want to go in. He also told me what he wants to be doing
and in the end we shook hands and agreed to part company by
mutual consent.
"This sort of thing is just part and parcel of football.
We have done very well to get where we have got to but we
now need to freshen things up a bit.
"It does not affect me whether we are sitting in
sixth or third at this moment in time because the league is
still very tight but we need that injection into the squad."
After the visit of Burton Albion to the Wessex Stadium on
Saturday, Weymouth will have a 14-day break until their next
league encounter at Halifax Town on January 20.
Hill said: "The break has come at just the right time
for us. We have got a two-week window and that will give me
a bit of time to do some shopping. There are certain areas
where we need to strengthen and I have already made some enquiries.
I am also planning to make more enquiries soon."
