Gunning for Grecians
By Adam Summers
Tuesday 23rd January 2007
WEYMOUTH boss Jason Tindall is confident that, his side can
get "a result" from their Nationwide Conference
National clash at St James' Park tonight despite the fact
they have not played a competitive fixture for 22 days.
Exeter City are likely to field ex-Weymouth duo Steve Tully
and Lee Elam who left the Wessex Stadium for the Grecians
on January 12 after the Dorset outfit had transfer-listed
their entire squad because of a financial crisis.
Since then the Terras have removed their players from the
transfer list and Tindall reckons the game could provide the
perfect tonic for the club.
He said: "We are looking forward to it. We have not
played for a long time and we just want to get back playing.
"We are obviously getting thrown in at the deep end
in terms of it being a local derby and I am sure that will
add a bit of spice to it but we are more than capable of going
there and getting a result.
`As everyone knows Steve Tully and Lee Elam are now down
there but in my mind that does not change a thing.
`All we have got to do is worry about ourselves and do what
we have been working on in training. We have got a professional
bunch of lads and if we do that then I think we will do well.
"Ben Smith is obviously suspended and the only other
doubt we had was Ashley Vickers with his hamstring but he
is fit now so we will have a good, strong side out who are
more than capable of beating them I have no worries about
that."
Tindall is believed to be in negotiations with striker Stuart
Beavon who plays for Didcot Town in the BGB Southern League
South-West Division.
The 22-year-old is expected to hold further talks with the
Terras today and could be in the squad for tonight's game.
Beavon scored two goals in the FA Vase final in 2005 when
he was voted the competition's player of the season. This
season he has netted 36 competitive goals,
Tindall refused to name the player he is in talks with but
said: "The lad I am speaking with has been in training
with us and now we have got to sit down and have a chat and
decide what we can do."
When asked whether any decisions have been made over the
likes of Scott Dixon and Ross Carmichael, Tindall added: "Nothing
has been done with any of the young lads. We are still getting
them in training and having a look at them, and we will make
a decision on them soon."
Former Terra Brian Dutton has also been linked with a move
back to the Wessex Stadium.
Weymouth's home fixture with Burton Albion will now
be played on Saturday, February 3. The game was called off
on January 6 due to a waterlogged pitch.
Former Weymouth man Kyle Critchell has -left Southampton
and joined Coca-Cola League One side Chesterfield on a free
transfer. The 20-year-old has signed a deal until the end
of the season.
