Calder - No deals secured
By Adam Summers
Friday 11th January 2007
"NO one has gone and no one has come in." That
was the message from Weymouth chief executive Gary Calder
at the end of business yesterday.
Due to a huge cost-cutting exercise every Terras' player
has been placed on the transfer list but so far no deals have
been completed for their services. No replacements have been
found either.
Calder added: "One or two things are bubbling around
and we will probably see a few things happen tomorrow."
Striker Raphael Nade is on a season-long loan at the Dorset
outfit from Carlisle United but as yet he has not returned
to the Coca-Cola League One club.
Calder said: "Raphael Nade is still our player."
Local rivals Exeter City, who will host the Terras on January
23 in Nationwide Conference National, are keeping a close
eye on events at the Wessex Stadium.
The Grecians are believed to be particularly interested in
winger Lee Elam but Steve Tully, Ben Smith, Dean Howell and
Richard Logan could also be possibilities.
When asked what Weymouth players he was interested in signing
Exeter boss Paul Tisdale refused to comment. He said: "I
am not going to answer that at the moment I am afraid."
Meanwhile, Weymouth Wildcats have moved to allay fans' fears
that the club will suffer due to the ongoing restructuring
at Weymouth Football Club.
Assured
The Wildcats are tenants of the Terras at the Wessex Stadium
but the speedway team's chairman Phil Bartlett has been assured
the club's future is safe.
He said: "I have spoken to Gary Calder and he has assured
me that there is no threat to the speedway and we will be
racing at the stadium in 2007.
"We, as a club, have also had a turbulent year with
refusal of our planning application and noise issues and can
empathise with the club and its supporters.
"Weymouth speedway has received an enormous amount of
support from the football club and its fans over the last
year and it is times like these that support from the fans
is needed the most.
"We urge all supporters of the Terras and the Wildcats
to get ' behind the club in its hour of need and all the staff
and management at Weymouth Wildcats Ltd hope for a successful
out-come for the Terras."
