Terras must focus on closing gap
By Paul Baker
Tuesday 29th November 2005
TERRAS boss Garry Hill has told his players to forget all
about their recent knock-out exploits ahead of tonight's vital
Conference South clash at Cambridge City (7.45pm).
Three of Weymouth's last four outings have come in either
the FA Cup or FA Trophy, leaving them with a game of catch-up
to play in the league.
Hill's men have at least three matches in hand on the six
teams above them in the table, but the manager stresses it's
points on the board that count.
He explained: "Every game for us now is a big one, but
a visit to Cambridge City is particularly huge. They are one
of the best sides around having finished runners-up last year
and I fully expect them to be up there fighting for promotion
come the end of the season.
"Because of our good cup runs, we're now in a situation
where we've got plenty of games in hand on everyone above
us. But that's only any good if we get results.
"What we have to do is forget all about the FA Cup and
FA Trophy and get back into league mode. Our results over
the past three months have been superb in all competitions,
but we start again afresh tonight.
"Despite playing catch-up, we're still there in the
chasing pack, as are Cambridge who too have a few games in
hand. That's what makes it so important for both teams tonight
and it's vital we come away with a result."
Hill says he's unlikely to make any changes to the side that
put Havant and Waterlooville out of the FA Trophy at the Wessex
Stadium on Saturday, although he's not ruled out a return
for either Ian Hutchinson and Adam Wilde.
"Ian and Adam are back in training after their loan
periods at Tiverton and Eastleigh respectively," added
the manager, "and are definitely in my thoughts. Both
are in an 18-man squad that will travel to Cambridge and each
has a big part to play in our push for promotion.
Silence
"Having said that, I doubt there will be any changes
to the starting line-up. Everyone came through the Havant
game okay and I suspect that's how we'll start this evening."
Meanwhile rumours linking ex-Spurs striker Darren Caskey
with a move to the Wessex Stadium have met with a wall of
silence from club officials.
Caskey, who played under Hill at Hornchurch, has lately been
turning out for an American side and speculation is mounting
that he'll be joining the Terras in the New Year.
However, chief executive Gary Calder issued a firm `no comment'
when asked about the rumour yesterday.
