Dorset duo feel at home
By Paul Baker
Tuesday 29th November 2005
WEYMOUTH and Dorchester have both been handed plum home draws
in the first round proper of the FA Trophy.
The Terras, who saw off Havant and Waterlooville on Saturday
will entertain Nation-wide Conference outfit Forest Green
Rovers, while the Magpies receive Cambridge United if they
get past Lewes in a third qualifying round replay at the Avenue
Stadium tonight.
Both ties are due to played on Saturday, December 17.
Terras boss Garry Hill said he was delighted to be at home
to the side Weymouth beat 1-0 in a pre-season friendly back
in July.
He said: "Being at home is what's important when it
comes to cup draws and so I'm delighted. The opposition is
secondary really but I'm happy to be taking on Forest Green
Rovers.
"So far we've been lucky in terms of home draws and
so it's important we make the most of this one. The FA Trophy
is a big prize and one we can think about realistically."
With this evening's replay in mind, Dorchester manager Mark
Morris predictably refused to discuss the prospects of a game
against a Cambridge United outfit who exited the FA Cup last
month at neighbours Weymouth.
But chairman Eddie Belt said the draw was a great incentive
to overcome Lewes tonight.
"It's an absolutely superb draw against a side who were
in the Football League only last season," said Belt.
"The lads felt they were a little unlucky not to win
at the first attempt - and this draw should give them even
more incentive to do well tonight."
