Laws returns with Legends
By Paul Baker

Friday 1st July 2005

DAVID Laws is on his way back to the Wessex Stadium.

But the Terras legend's return is a one-day only affair this coming weekend.

Goalscoring hero Laws is among a group of former Weymouth greats who will be taking part in the club's Celebrity Football Tournament on Sunday.

Other ex-Terras favourites lined-up for the event are Shaun Teale and Tony Agana, along with Neil Ruddock, Neville Southall, Kerry Dixon and Tony Cottee.

Joining Laws from the club's more recent history will be brothers Simon and Alex Browne, John Waldock and Mark Robinson while Paul Arnold, Anni Iannone and Brian Lawrence represent the 70s and 80s.

Also taking part are stars from world of television and radio including DJ Spoony and members of the cast from soap shows Eastenders and Emerdale.

Chief executive Gary Calder said: "These are big names from the club's past and I think the fans will enjoy seeing them in action again.

Players like David Laws and Anni Iannone are folk heroes in these parts and we're delighted that they've agreed to take part in what promises to be a fun day out for all the family."

"Obviously the big names like Neil Ruddock, Neville Southall and Tony Cottee are attractions in themselves, but I'm sure just as many supporters will be keen to watch their club's former stars as well."

Apart from a competitive day's football, the Wessex will be hosting lots of other attractions including a fun fair, live music and donkey rides.

The Terras new team strip for next season is also set to be unveiled and there's also a chance for supporters to meet the current squad of players.

"There's something for all the family," added Calder, "and not just football fans alone. Everyone is being catered for in one way or another and it should be a cracking day's entertainment."

The cost of entry on Sunday is £10 for adults, £1 children (stand transfer £3 adults £1 children) with parking £5 per car.

Tickets and more information is available by calling the Terras on 01305-785558 or visiting the club's website www.theterras.co.uk

Gates open at l lam with the football matches starting at lpm and there will be fun and activities right through until 7pm.
