Clark shines as Terras progress
By David Swain
Monday 18th July 2005
TERRAS boss Garry Hill said he thought things were "moving
in the right direction" after his new squad crowned their
Wessex Stadium debut with a 1-0 friendly win over Conference
National outfit Forest Green Rovers.
"People mustn't get carried away - but I am happy with
the progress we are making and I am sure we will be ready
come August 13," said Hill after new signing Danny Webb
marked his home debut with a 75th minute winner in sweltering
temperatures.
"Hopefully the fans who came down went away pleased
with what they saw because considering the heat some of the
football we played was very attractive," added Hill who
gave all 20 players in his squad a piece of the action.
"Forest Green had one or two chances in the first half
- but I thought overall we had five or six good opportunities
to score and didn't capitalise on them, which is something
I am sure we will put right in the weeks to come."
Right winger Steve Clark was the man who really caught the
eye with Terras fans, terrorising Forest Green with his pacey
runs on the flank and some incisive passes.
But Hill wouldn't be drawn on who impressed him most.
"That's not for me to say," said Hill. "Steve
did very well but I leave it up to everyone else to talk about
who they think did best. I am sure our supporters will go
away and have a lot to talk about in the pub."
Hill added: "It was nice to get another game out of
the way and to win was a bonus. Now we can look forward to
another good test against Southampton tomorrow night and I
will also be taking a side to play against Westlands Sports
on Thursday."
