Hill in Challis chase
By Paul Baker
Tuesday 7th June 2005
TERRAS face stiff competition in their bid to bring defender
Trevor Challis to the Wessex Stadium.
The former QPR man, who has just been released by Shrewsbury
Town, is also high on Kiddermin-ster Harriers wanted list.
Garry Hill's Conference South outfit has been able to beat
Harriers' provisional personal terms and also offer Challis
a relocation fee to move from his Bristol home.
But the 29-year-old says his first choice is Kidderminster
and is now planning to get back in touch with their manager
Stuart Watkiss.
He explained: "I've had a chat with Stuart and I know
he's having a bit of trouble with his budget, to put it mildly.
This is because of the current boardroom power struggle that's
going on at the club.
"Kidderminster is a club I'd love to come to but I know
they've got to sort out their finances first. He's said he'd
like me to come down and help him defensively and he's just
asked me for a little more time.
"It's something I'm seriously considering but I can't
afford to hang around forever because I've got a young family
and a mortgage to look after. There are other offers to consider
including a good one from Weymouth."
Challis has sympathy for Harriers' plight having been on
Telford's books when they went bust at the end of the 2003-04
season.
"I've been through this kind of uncertainty before and
it's not nice," added the one-time Bristol Rovers regular,
who is set to ring Watkiss later this week to find out the
latest situation."
