KIRK Jackson has made a New Year's resolution - to fire Weymouth into the Conference South play-offs.

The former Yeovil Town star, who netted twice against Hayes on Bank Holiday Monday, admits he is loving life at the Wessex Stadium following his switch from Hornchurch last November.

And the powerful targetman has revealed how he is sad to see pal Roy O'Brien return to Yeovil after his loan switch with the Terras.

He told Echosport: "It was a great win for us against Hayes the other day and one we really needed.

"We have got to be looking to win every game between now and the end of the season.

"Draws are no good to us now if we want to get in the play-offs, many more and it will leave us too much work to catch the other sides.

"I'm still convinced we can make the play-offs and I know the rest of the boys feel the same way.

"Hopefully I'll score the goals to help get us there, along with Lee Phillips, and that is certainly my target over the next few months.

"Personally speaking, I've been really pleased how the first couple of months at Weymouth
have gone.

"I've moved back down to the region, where I was when I was at Yeovil, and that has really helped because I've cut down on the travelling from when I was at Hornchurch.

"I'm scoring goals, which is what all strikers want to do, and settled in well with a good bunch of lads.

"But the most important thing to me is helping the team and getting Weymouth back in the promotion picture.

"We didn't have the best time of it in the two games against Dorchester over Christmas and that was quite hard to take.

"Occasionally local derbies produce freak results because the form guide goes out of the window and I think that may have been the case in the Boxing Day defeat when we lost 4-1 up there.

We just didn't seem to get going but hopefully that defeat is behind us now and we can kick on from here."

And Jackson, who trains full-time with Yeovil, said playing alongside former Glovers teammate and pal O'Brien helped him settle in at Radipole Lane.

He said: "Roy's a good mate and it's just a shame he's now had to go back to Yeovil.

"He gave the team something extra in the centre of the defence and hopefully he'll come back to us at some point.

"When he was here on loan I tried desperately to get him to sign with us permanently.

"I talk to him every day kept persuading him to make the move - I told him I'd act as his chauffeur if that is what it took.

"Unfortunately though he's now been recalled to Yeovil's benefit but I'm sure we'll be considered if he becomes available again."
