Midfielder claims the Wessex is 'horrible'
TERRAS outcast Shaun Wilkinson has branded Weymouth 'horrible'
and wants to make his loan switch to
Havant and Waterlooville permanent.
The midfielder has returned to Westleigh Park for a second
time having left the Hawks for Weymouth earlier this year.
Now the Portsmouth-based 23-year-old, who was sent off for
the Hawks at Cambridge City last weekend, has slammed Terras
fans and reckons he should never have joined the Dorset side.
"I shouldn't have left," he said.
"Since going to Weymouth it's been the lowest spell of
my career.
"The place was horrible and the fans are quick to get
on the back of players.
"It is good to be back with the Hawks on a month's loan
and I am big enough to admit I made a huge mistake in leaving
in the first place.
"All I want to do now is start rebuilding a few bridges.
"I know I will continue to get some stick, but I have
chosen to come back to the Hawks rather than Bognor, who were
also interested.
"I consider myself to be a Hawk again and now I would
love to make it a permanent move."
The tough-tackling former Brighton and Hove Albion star also
claimed he was blameless over claims he spat at Weymouth fans
following the FA Trophy exit at Redbridge earlier this month.
"To be honest I think it is a bit of a ploy to get me
out of the club," he said.
Reaction.
"As I was walking off the pitch, a number of supporters
were waiting to abuse me and started to get quite personal.
"All I said was if I wasn't wanted at the club then I
would go.
"At that point one of them leant over and threw a pint
of beer in my face.
"My natural reaction was to spit out of my mouth what
he had thrown into it.
"My eyes were closed from the beer hitting my face and
I spat more into the air than anything."
Head coach Steve Johnson today revealed Weymouth fined Wilkinson
two weeks wages over the affair after a club investigation.
"The matter is still in the hands of the PFA and Shaun
is considering whether to appeal the decision to fine him
the two weeks' maximum fine," he said.
"He has gone on loan to get regular football at Havant
and he will be there for at least another three weeks or so.
"At the end of that period we'll sit down and discuss
whether the deal should be made permanent.
