Winger lights up a lacklustre Terras show
By Adam Summers
TRIALIST Cheol Min-Kim was the one bright light for Weymouth
in an otherwise disappointing pre-season performance at St Marys
Field last night.
The young winger showed some flashes of real quality for
the Terras but still could not inspire them to overcome Toolstation
Western League Division One side Bridport, who defended well
in what turned out to be a goalless draw.
Following a positive performance in Saturdays 2-0 defeat
against Crawley Town, this latest display was clearly viewed
as unsatisfactory by Wey-mouth boss Ian Hutchinson, who felt
his side failed to take the game by the scruff of the
neck. He said: We were disappointing in certain
areas and it was a real shame as it was a great opportunity
for a lot of the lads to take the bull by the horns and show
what they can really do.
It is okay doing well against the likes of Crawley
but in games like this one you have really got to try and
get a hold of it and we did not do that.
We were not clinical enough in front of goal and our
pressing and closing down was not good enough.
However, I would rather this happen now in pre-season
than when the really serious stuff begins in a couple of weeks
time.
There are still a few weeks to go to the start of the
season and we know we still need to get that extra bit of
quality in, which we will do.
In the meantime we will continue to stick together
and move on. I had a chat with the lads afterwards but I am
not going to berate them at all.
Many of them are young players who have come into the
set up from a lower standard and we must remain patient and
continue to work with them to get the best out of them.
Reflecting on Min-Kims performance, Hutchinson added:
He was at AFC Bournemouth last season and I believe
they wanted to offer him something but because of the transfer
embargo they couldnt.
So, towards the end of the season he came to us and
had a few run outs in the reserves and I thought he showed
some nice touches. He looked sharp, can play down either flank,
and we will definitely be taking another look at him.
Meanwhile, Hutchinson is now in a position to offer some
of his young stars non-contract terms and is hoping to secure
several signatures by the end of the week.
He said: We can now go ahead and tie a few down and
we will be looking to do that over the coming days. There
should be some developments by the weekend.
Hutchinson began his managerial career at Bridport and was
full of admiration for the job Trevor Senior is currently
doing at St Marys.
He added: They were good opposition. They played the
game in the right spirit and tried to get the ball down and
pass it, which was nice to see. I wish Trevor and his side
all the best for the forthcoming season.
