Match report
By Nigel Biddlecoombe
WEYMOUTH suffered their eight defeat of the season at the Beveree
Stadium and remain at the bottom of the Blue Square South table.
Matt Townley, Martin Slocombe, Matt Cooper and Jordan Rose
were left out after last weeks FA Cup debacle at Bishops
Cleeve while Andy Harris was unfit because of a knee injury.
Manager Matt Hale brought in new signing Simon Radcliffe,
Chris Allen, Jordan Vincent and Scott Dixon to the starting
line-up with Carl Foster, Jordan Metters and Matt Bound on
the bench.
In the case of Bound it was never the intention to name him
as a substitute, but the ex-skipper suffered car problems
en-route to the ground and arrived with the game already underway.
The home side, playing down the slight slope, were first
to show when a long throw from Jon McDonald was punched out
by Teras keeper Ryan Harrison only for Craig Dundas
to pick up the loose ball, but his effort from just eight
yards flew well over the crossbar.
The hosts went close again in the ninth minute when a free-kick
from Barrie Matthews was allowed to go across the face of
the goal to be met by Ian Hodges whose header was beaten out
by Harrison.
Ashley Smith collected the loose ball, but the assistant
had spotted him in an offside position.
Harrison had to be alert a few minutes later to save from
Dean Wells header from a Smith corner and Vincent was
on hand to rob Craig Tanner as the home full back was poised
to shoot.
Weymouths first real chance came in the 23rd minute
when Jon McDonald made a mess of clearing a ball from Vincent
and Jake Reid latched on to the loose ball.
The Terras striker ran into the area, but Matt Lovett
was able to push the ball off Reids feet at the expense
of a corner.
When Stuart Lake found Dundas with a long ball over the Weymouth
defence it looked ominous for the visitors, but the home striker
shot wide as Scott Brice put him under pressure.
The next action saw Matthews run from inside his own half
before releasing Marcello Fernandes, but Harrison held his
25-yard ground shot at the second attempt.
Hampton took the lead in the 41st minute when a long throw
from Wells was collected by Ian Hodges. He pushed the ball
on to Ashley Smith who then fired home from the edge of the
area.
Weymouth were first to threaten after the break when Vincent
found Reid who made 25 yards before pushing the ball to Dixon,
but the Terras mans cross was poor and the ball flew
harmlessly out of play.
Harrison did well to pluck a cross from Fernandes off the
head of Hodges and then to save from a free- kick, also from
Fernandes.
At the other end Josh Klein-Davies shot was held by
Lovett after Reid had put the substitute through on goal.
Brice did superbly to block an effort from Hodges with his
chest on the goal-line in the 61st minute and the young centre-back
was also on hand to take the ball off the feet of Dundas just
after.
With 72 minutes on the clock Hampton doubled their advantage
when a poor clearance from Vin-cent was collected by Craig
Tanner.
The Beavers man fed Dundas who let fly from the edge
of the area. Harrison was able to push out the shot, but Tanner
had continued his run and reacted first to tap home from close
range.
Carl Foster, making his senior debut as a replacement for
Matt Groves, linked well with Klein-Davies to create an opening
for Dean Smith, but Lovett was able to hold on to the midfielders
effort.
Hampton had a couple of chances to increase the lead
Smith shooting high and Dundas hitting a post from close range,
before Dundas added a third in the 82nd minute.
Nathan Collier put Smith clear on the left flank with time
to fire in a cross which evaded Harrison leaving Dundas to
score from close range.
Although the result and scoreline was identical
to last weeks result at Bishops Cleeve the handful of
Weymouth fans who had made the trip to Surrey all agreed that
the overall performance was much improved.
