Boro blast Terras
By Nigel Biddlecombe
WEYMOUTH suffered their second consecutive away Blue Square
Premier defeat on Saturday.
The absence of Stuart Beavon and Conal Platt caused Terras'
manager Jason Tindall to change both his starting line up
and his formation for the fixture at Broadhall Way.
The inclusion of Jefferson Louis, as a lone striker, and
Narada Bernard, at full back, saw Weymouth adopt a 4-5-1 line-up.
The home side pegged Weymouth back straight from the kick
off, setting the tone for what was to be a hard afternoon
for the visitors.
As early as the fourth minute Daryl McMahon, John Martin
and Adam Miller combined well to release John Nutter down
the left flank.
The home man strolled beyond the Terras defence before firing
in his cross which, fortunately for the visitors, was headed
clear by Justin Roberts.
Jason Matthews had to move smartly to save from Adam Miller
and to smother efforts by Lewis Stuart and McMahon before the
home side opened the scoring in the 16th minute.
Marcus Browning fouled Barry Fuller on the right edge of
the pen-alty area, Miller took the free-kick which ricocheted
around the box before falling to Nutter allowing him to fire
home from 25 yards.
In the course of the next 10 minutes Miller wasted three
good opportunities to increase the home side's advantage,
before Weymouth mounted their first serious attack in the
26th minute.
Nick Crittenden beat Nutter before crossing into the path
of Louis. The Terras front man was unable to make contact,
but the ball found its way to James Coutts who blasted over
the crossbar.
Just seconds later Kyle Critchell did well to beat his marker
and fire in a shot, but the effort was target.
Louis found space between two defenders seven minutes from
the break, but his shot flew wide of the target, the striker
picking up an injury in the process.
The half closed out with Louis getting in a good header following
Critchell's cross with Alan Julian saving at the expense of
a corner.
The second period was just five minutes old when Steve Morison
disposed Roberts and crossed into the danger area finding
Miller who let fly with a shot on the turn that Matthews was
able to gather.
As Weymouth struggled to stem the red tide the home side
were well in the ascendancy, Morison was too high with his
headed effort from Dobson's cross, while Matthews saved from
Miller just two minutes later and the same man headed well
wide after McMahon had supplied a telling ball.
Coutts was able to manufacture a rare opportunity on 59 minutes,
but his effort was deflected for a corner. From the set-piece
Weymouth worked the corner routine that had brought their
second goal on Tuesday night against Forest Green Rovers,
Paulo Vernazza took the kick, Coutts sold the home defence
the dummy, but - on this occasion Simon Weatherstone's effort
was well wide.
Within nine minutes the game was over for the visitors after
Stuart Lewis' quick free-kick was whipped into the Terras'
box and met by Narada Bernard.
The Weymouth man inexplicably headed back across his own
goal and Matthews had to watch helplessly as Morison powered
home his header.
In the 74th minute Fuller muscled past Coutts and crossed
low into the path of Miller who drove the final nail into
Weymouth's coffin.
After the game had been held up for five minutes to allow
an assistant referee to be replaced by the fourth official
the Terras had their most productive period in stoppage time
as Ashley Vickers - on as a substitute trying his luck as
a striker - saw his shot saved and Weatherstone's free-kick
failed to trouble the home defence.
