Hill signs Carey for 3 months
By Matt Pitman
Saturday 6th August
SHAUN Carey has signed a short-term deal with the Terras.
The midfielder put pen to paper and a three month contract
before Weymouth drew 1-1 at Tiverton Town in their final pre
season friendly last night.
Boss Garry Hill, whose side levelled late on at Ladysmead
through Darren Wheeler, says he is delighted to secure the
ex Republic of Ireland under 21 international's services.
He said: "Shaun has done well over pre season and has
looked pretty sharp in the couple of friendlies he has featured
in.
"He missed nearly all of last season with a cruciate
ligament injury but having managed him at Hornchurch last
year I know all about his ability.
Competitive
"This short term deal means we can assess Shaun's fitness
in competitive games and if he comes through those okay we
can sit down and discuss something longer term.
"Shaun naturally wanted a deal with more security but
he accepts we can't risk that at the moment and is happy to
stay and try and prove himself over the next three months."
The signing came as Weymouth were held to a draw at Ladysmead
in their
last warm up game before next Saturday's home Conference South
opener with Havant and Waterlooville.
Winger Wheeler saved the visitors blushes with a late equaliser
just as it appeared Tiverton were heading for a shock win.
One-time Terras target Jamie Mudge fired the hosts into the
lead early in the sec-ond half in a game in which Hill's full-timers
missed a hatful of chances.
But just as it seemed like Weymouth were about to slip to
a defeat, up popped
Wheeler to get them back on terms with minutes remaining.
