Welcome to the first fan interview
for the official website. We intend to keep this item running
over the summer months, and allow you to share some of your
wonderful memories from over the years. Information on how
to apply is at the bottom of the page.
The first fan to take part is Paul Honnor.
Profile
Name: Paul Honnor
Place of Birth: Weymouth
Occupation: Business Manager for a Wealth Management
Company
Years following the Terras: 20
Favourite Terras player of all time: David Laws
In Depth
RB: Evening Paul, thanks for taking
part. Let's get underway by finding out how you became an
avid supporter of the Terras?
PH: The old man really, it was either
that or the local swimming pool on a Saturday afternoon (followed
by a visit to the Chapelhay Tavern).
RB: Is there much you remember
from your first live experience of
Weymouth FC?
PH: Not at all. I can't really remember
my last one! (Hiccup)
RB: What impressed you so much
about David Laws during his time with the team?
PH: Work Rate, speed and someone who,
I believe would give blood, sweat and tears for the club.
Not the most technically gifted player to wear the shirt,
but as long as you give 100% time and time again the fans
will quickly warm to you.
RB: One of the key moments for
the club in it's recent history was our defeat to the hands
of Rushden & Diamonds in February. Can you remember where
you were when you first heard the result, and your initial
emotions?
PH: Sat at my computer watching the
goals go in. I felt gutted and proud at the same time, but
if it was 2, 3 or 4 nil no one would have battered an eyelid.
But because of the score it brought local and national press
to the situation of what was happening at the club. Seeing
how most people have reacted and got together after this shows
there is a club worthy of our support.
RB: Next season will see the battle
between Weymouth and Dorchester recommence. Do you look forward
to the derby day matches, or find them unbearably tense?
PH: A mixture really. Not being a
local anymore I don't get the sense of build up, rivalry or
bragging rights. Its good for the Terras just from a financial
sense, but being up in London I will be first keeping an eye
on the fixture list for London based teams and arranging with
the "rabble" up here to travel to them. If I am
down over the Christmas period I will go along. I think it
means more to the Northern types than us to be honest.
RB: As you say, you are now residing
in London. Do the amount of fixtures in the Capital make up
for not being able to get to the Wessex on a regular basis?
PH: Yeah, I think when you are away
from home the atmosphere can be better. It's a shame I can't
hand my gate money to help the club more often, but I try
and make up for it in other ways.
RB: It's great to hear you have
been meeting monthly with an exiles fan club called the South
East England Terras. How is it coming along?
PH: Very well, we have 15 people signed
up to get information on what we are doing up here, while
the next thing being an online auction which we will discuss
at our meeting this week. The most we have had at any one
meeting is about 8, but some different faces turn up each
time and it's good to have a chat about the club and what's
going on. I hope we can arrange some more sponsorship for
next season.
RB: Which Weymouth game would you
say is the best you've had the pleasure to watch?
PH: Apart from the 8-0 at Dorch, it
would be against Forest home and away.
RB: What is your greatest Weymouth
Team?
PH: There has been many great players,
but non have given me as much pride as those lads who went
up against Rushden & Diamonds this season just gone. However,
the side that held Forest to a draw are up there.
Extra Time
RB: What song do you think would
pump the team up before a game?
PH: Maybe something from our very
own DJ Corbz? If not, 'White Lines' by Grand Master Flash.
RB: What is your worst nightmare
as a Terras fan?
PH: There has been several, normally
relating to the financial miss-management which could have
seen us lose our club.
RB: Player you'd love to see in
a Weymouth shirt?
PH: Lionel Messi
RB: The Rec or the Wessex?
PH: Tough one. My vague memories of
the Old Rec weren't great (bit run down) but looking at it
now through rose tinted specs, it was atmospheric and a great
location. The Wessex isn't ideal as it doesn't have the facilities
needed, but when it was built 20 years ago I guess they were
not at the top of the list.
RB: And finally, what are your
hopes for the team next season, on and off the pitch?
PH: My hope for the team is a comfy
mid-table. Off the field, maximisation of all types of revenues,
stability and the continuation of the good feeling from us
fans towards the club.
I'd like to thank Paul for giving up some of his spare time
to take part in the interview. Here are the details you need
for registering your interest in taking part in an interview,
with the next one taking place in a fortnight.
