Profile
Name: Lee Price
Place of Birth: Birmingham
Occupation: Cashier for a betting firm
Years following the Terras: 6
Favourite Terras player of all time: Stuart Beavon,
Lee Elam, Chukki Eribenne.
In Depth
RB: Evening Lee, good to speak
to you. Let's get cracking by learning how you became an avid
supporter of the Terras?
LP: I started following the
team in 2003 after visiting the town on holiday every year.
I guess you could say I'm a grockle, but I plan on moving
there within the next five years. I love everything about
the place, and the residents in Weymouth come across as really
polite people. Since then I have tried to make four to five
games a season.
RB: Is there much you remember
from your first live experience of Weymouth FC?
LP: My first game was either
away at Moor Green or at the Wessex against Grays. I remember
it was my first time at a non-league game. I've got a season
ticket at West Brom so I see a lot of Premiership/Championship
matches, and this non-league game was so different to what
I'd been to before, but that's what I loved about it so much.
I love how you can walk around the various stands, stand-up,
sing, and generally have a good laugh. The club seems to be
more 'fan-friendly' aswell. In the Premiership it's just about
money and the teams don't really care about the fans.
RB: Bit of an understatement,
but I guess it wasn't the easiest season for you with both
Albion and Weymouth getting relegated?
LP: No it wasn't the easiest
season at all. I guess it was expected though. With the money
problems that Weymouth encountered, while Albion are known
to pay some of the smallest wages in the big bucks Premier
League. It'll all be made up for though next season when we
are both promoted!
RB: Stuart Beavon is one of
your favourite players of all-time. What impressed you so
much about him during his time with the club?
LP: He's the best striker I've
seen at Weymouth while I have been watching them. He was obviously
too good to be playing at non-league level, and I expect him
to move higher up the footballing ladder. His goalscoring
was very good, but his football brain was even better.
RB: Can you recall any funny
or unfortunate moments from over the years while watching
the Terras?
LP: Two moments stand out really.
The first was away at Burton. We took about 18 fans, if that,
and I must have looked rather weird with my Midlands accent
in with the rest of the Terras faithful.
The other one was at home to Grays
over the Christmas period. I decided to go down with the family
for the weekend, simply to watch the game. We arrived about
2pm, and we were just about to go to the game when it was
called off. A five hour trip for a game and we ended up in
'The Somerset' all weekend instead.
RB: One of the key events for
the club in its recent history was our defeat to the hands
of Rushden & Diamonds in February. Can you remember your
initial emotions?
LP: I was at work, and had
read about the problems beforehand, I'd expected to lose about
4-0. I remember watching the scores coming up and couldn't
believe when it got to seven, eight, and nine. A work collegue,
who is a Walsall supporter, and I were watching the results
come in, and I had to explain to him why we had lost that
heavily. I felt so proud of the players though, as it must
have been such a shock hearing they were going to play.
RB: Which Weymouth game would you say is the best you've
had the pleasure to watch?
LP: I'd have to say away at
Tamworth in our first game at Conference National level. It
was a local game for me, and I know a few Tamworth fans. So
when we scored within the first fifteen seconds the texts
starting flying. I loved that day!
RB: Next season will see the
battle between Weymouth and Dorchester recommence. With your
experiences as a WBA fan, do you look forward to the derby
matches, or find them unbearably tense?
LP: It's a mixture of feelings,
but derby matches take over my life for the week beforehand,
and the week after. I have a lot of friends who support the
'other side' in Aston Villa, and I stop talking to them a
couple of days before the game because of my hatred for their
club. Come the day of the game I have a couple of drinks to
calm my nerves. The Weymouth vs Dorchester game is one I am
going to get to next season. I'm really looking forward to
it, gutted I wasn't able to make the hammering we gave them
a couple of seasons ago.
RB: Who would be in your greatest
Weymouth Eleven?
LP: Arran Lee-Barrett, Trevor Challis,
Chris Blackburn, Scott Doe, Kyle Critchell, Lee Elam, Simon
Weatherstone, Nick Crittenden, Stuart Beavon, Steve Claridge,
Chukki Eribenne. (4-3-3)
RB: What do you make of the
brilliant news that Kyle Critchell has returned to the club?
LP: I was very suprised that
he came back, but I'm extremely happy about it. He will offer
us a lot next season, and he will be one of the more experienced
members of the team. It's great to have him back, and hopefully
he will not be unfortunate with injuries this campaign.
Extra Time
RB: What song would you use
to pump the team up before a game?
LP: Something with a bit of
'fight' and 'rock'. I'd suggest All My Life by Foo Fighters.
RB: What player would you love
to see in a Weymouth shirt?
LP: David Beckham. His crosses
would be amazing, he would offer a huge amount of experience
to the squad, and he'd be a massive role-model for the younger
members of the squad to follow.
RB: What is your worst nightmare
as a Terras fan?
GM: I thought that was going
to happen last season with the club going out of business.
Other than that, relegation from the Conference South, because
I have no idea how I would find news or results then.
RB: Finally, what are your
hopes for the club next season, on and off the pitch?
LP: I hope for a peaceful season
with the money problems being sorted out. On the pitch I expect
a mid-table finish, or a push for the play-offs. I think it
will be a very difficult season, but the lads will do us proud.
I'd like to thank Lee for taking
part and giving up some of his spare time for this interview.
